Fire & Marine Safety System Survey Mitigation

The fire and safety deficiencies underwriters escalate — and what each one costs to clear before survey.

    Insurance is the real gate

Since 2022 underwriters have tightened hard on older boats. Fire-related deficiencies are the ones that stop a binder, not just a sale.

    The critical set

    • Automatic engine room suppression with a current inspection tag
    • USCG-rated fuel hose within date
    • Correct count, class and mounting of portable extinguishers
    • Compliant, vented propane locker with a solenoid
    • Shore power inlet and cord free of heat damage

Any one of these can hold a closing for weeks while a yard fits you in. Clear them before you list, not during escrow.

Work the mitigation list below and keep the receipts — documented remediation is worth more in negotiation than the repair itself.
